EMDR
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapeutic modality that works to help clients process through stressful events, and works to change negative cognitions, or core beliefs. EMDR can be a powerful tool for clients to help them overcome events, beliefs, and experiences that remain highly distressful or disturbing for them, allowing themselves to create distance between themselves and the event/belief. In doing so, thinking about, or talking about said event or belief becomes much more manageable and much less debilitating. According to the Permanente Journal, just six sessions of EMDR resulted in no symptoms of PTSD in 100% of people who experienced a single trauma, and 77% of people who experienced multiple traumas.
Couples Therapy
Couples, or marital therapy is an extremely common measure for couples, as nearly half of married couples will seek therapy at some point during their lifetime. The National Institute of Health reports the average person is better off in their relationship after concluding therapy than 70%-80% of individuals not receiving treatment. It is imperative that couples are seeing a therapist who utilizes evidence based practices in order to give themselves the greatest chance at positive outcomes. At Ascend Therapy Group, our couple therapists are Gottman trained. Gottman therapy is widely considered to be the number one couples therapy intervention, and is the most researched among couples therapy modalities.
Autism Spectrum Disorder
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a social communication disorder that is an increasingly common diagnosis in the United States, as well as globally. At Ascend Therapy Group, we are highly trained in treating individuals with ASD. We use Psychoeducation in order for individuals to help clients gain a greater understanding of ASD, and how it may impact their social interactions, relationships, and behavioral habits. Additionally, we engage our clients with social skills training geared specifically towards individuals on the Autism Spectrum. This allows the client to learn and practice skills that will allow them to communicate effectively in their relationships, and at work or school.
Men's Issues
Oftentimes, men require a unique approach to therapy. Statistically, men are less likely to seek out therapy due to a negative stigma surrounding asking for help. The first step is to create an environment and therapeutic relationship in which the client feels safe to discuss problems. Things such as anger, suppressed feelings, lack of identity, and challenges in friendships or romantic relationships are common issues that we see in our male clients. These issues require an approach that meets men where they are in their own therapeutic journey.
Life Transitions
One of the only guarantees in life is that it is full of changes! Whether it's a divorce, a job change, moving to a new city, or a loss of a relationship, we are constantly experiencing change in our lives. Some are bigger than others, and that's ok! In some instances, transitions in our lives can cause acute stress, depression, and even put a strain on our interpersonal relationships. Being able to process these changes with a trained professional, and learn coping skills to navigate the uncertainty can be highly beneficial to individuals experiencing life transitions.
